WMPTE ex Walsall Corporation 834L (WDH909) - a 1956 Daimler CVG6 / Willowbrook 66 seater is seen on 23 March 1974.

There were 15 of these semi-lowheight buses which had pre-selector gearboxes. The combination of semi-low-height, requiring a flexible coupling in the transmission and preselector gearbox earned these buses ther nickname "jumping jacks" - a smooth gearchange / smooth acceleration were virtually impossible, the bus encountering a to/fro motion as gears were changed. One of the bus preservation magazines had an article about these buses recently. In my experience unique amongst buses that I've travelled on, unfortunately none of these buses survive to demonstrate why they were unique.

This is from January. I finally revisited the scanner on a grey July
day. This person was doing some jumping jack warm-ups near the dam.
Too bad I didn't catch a jump.
